Ponytails for Mousie

I usually put Tamar's hair in ponytails so it doesn't fall into her face during the day. One morning, she asked for ponytails for Mousie, so I put some soft hair elastics around Mousie's ears. Tamar was delighted. Then Daniel wanted to get in on the photography action and show off his lion toy. Tamar was less than happy about giving up the limelight.

Benji in an Excavator Bucket

There has been ongoing construction on the street we use to walk to and from Benji's school. One day, the workers and trucks were gone but they had left an excavator bucket with a few orange cones around it -- I presume they were going to use it again the next day? Benji wanted to pose inside it and I think it makes a great shot.

Daycare Is Amazing (serving food)

One of the many, many reasons I love Tamar and Daniel's daycare is that it teaches the children to dish out their own food. Now, we just need to get organized and implement that at home!

Benji the Mad Scientist (winter break projects)

Here are some of the projects that Benji worked on during his winter break "Mad Science" camp. In order:  a catapult he built for a physics day; a flip-page book to draw his own moving images on a "science of light and images" day; a birdhouse he assembled and decorated (for Aaron) during biology day; chalk he made during chemistry day; a plastic vial with mouse bones that the children found when they dissected owl droppings on biology day; a few rockets from a day on the science of flight; and a kaleidescope from the "science of light and images" day.

I love that these are all home-made projects that are just taped together items you might find around the home.

Toddler Yoga at the DMV

A few weeks ago, I had to spent quite a long time at the DC Department of Motor Vehicles getting a paperwork glitch sorted out regarding our new car. I had Tamar and Daniel with me and they were wonderfully well-behaved. The woman who was helping me was incredibly nice and patient with us. Eventually the kids decided they would amuse themselves by doing yoga while we waited!

Daniel Makes a Phone Call

He decided that he wanted to call Grandma and proceeded to do so--dialing the number and having a long conversation. On the baby monitor.

Horsing Around Before Bedtime

In a demonstration of poor strategy, we rile our children up just before bedtime by letting them pile on each other, tickle fight, and horse around on our bed. Much laughter always ensues. --Victoria

Daniel draws an alligator

When I admired his drawing, he very clearly informed me that it was an alligator.

Benji's Homework (Money and Vampires edition)

Benji's class is doing a unit on money and learning about counting, spending, saving, and earning. Apparently they received an assignment to write and draw about what they would do if they had a million dollars.

I'm glad I already knew that Benji and his friends have been pretending to be vampires at recess, otherwise I might have been seriously concerned by the page that reads "with my amleeinne dollars i wod biy ded peopl blud. Becase I am a vempir." I hope this doesn't make me a bad parent but I find this hilarious.
