A New Friend
Benji and I were visiting the library a few days ago and we met a little boy named Liam who was there with his father and who was just a little younger than Benji. The two little boys really hit it off and spent at least half an hour playing – chasing each other, looking for letters on a carpet that had the alphabet, listening to stories that I read them, and playing together very nicely with this bead-rollercoaster toy. It was fun to listen to them talk to each other while they were playing.
Benji is really going to enjoy preschool in the fall, and the chance to play with so many other children.

The Alphabet Train
Over the past few days, Benji has taken a renewed interest in the alphabet and in decoding the system we call reading. :) Fortunately, his "alphabet train" provides him with lots of opportunities to look for letters and words that start with those letters.
This morning, he proudly told me: "Mommy, H is for Doh Doggie!"

Things Benji Says
This morning:
Victoria: Benji, who did we see last night? Did we see Baby Kai? (Yousef and Sarah's newborn son who just came home from the hospital)
Benji: Baby Kai is Xavi's little . . . (pauses, he can't remember the word he wants)
V: Little brother. A brother is someone who has the same mommy and daddy.
B: Like Benji and Doh!
V: What?
B: (happily) Benji and Doh are BROTHERS!

Imagination Time
As Benji's imagination develops, we more and more frequently find his stuffed toys left in positions that imply they were taking part in a story of some sort... Which is better news for Ming the Panda Bear than for Froggy.
